Hope that Republicans Win

I do not vote. I never voted. As I said many times before, so I will not get into the reasons again. I am not registered to vote. I do not belong to any party. But I can still say who I rather want to win.

Back in 2008 I wanted the Democrats to win the presidential elections. This was not because I really had anything with them, and also because I was a lot more ignorant back then. I just thought that maybe they are better on civil issues than Republicans. But they are not. I do not see it. The war still goes on. The ban on drugs, even marijuana, is still in place. Gay marriage has not been resolved. The patriot act has not been repealed. So tell me exactly how they vindicated themselves as being pro-civil liberties? They might talk better on these issues than Republicans but as far their results go, they are just as the same.

So the Democrats have not done anything great. Instead they decreased liberties (a political party decreasing liberties, woah, what a surprise, I would have never guessed) with their healthcare bill. Now you need to buy insurance, if you do not, you go to jail. The Democrats care so much about you that if you do not buy what they say then they will throw you into a cage.

That is why I prefer Republicans to Democrats. Republicans have not done anything. On civil issues they are just as bad. But at least they do not expand the size of the government as fast as Democrats do. Between these two parties there are no small government party. Both are big government parties, the only different is that Republicans are just a smaller government party. Therefore, in the long run Republicans are expected to do less damage to the country than Democrats.

This is why I hope Republicans win. If they do win I am not going to be cheering or anything. I am no Republican. I just see them as the lesser of two evils, but I remember that still makes them evil.

In fact, there is a reasonable chance the Republicans would win and then go on to win the presidential elections in 2012. The population has not been happy. Which is actually a good thing. A divided country in conflict is what we need. Having everyone agree and give giant approval ratings to a president is scary, just remember what happened with Bush after September 11.

I never thought I would say this but I am with Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity!

It's on the ballot in CA. Obama's DOJ has been less aggressive than Bush's in fighting medical marijuana as well. If Obama had gone any further, the resulting shitstorm would have prevented him from accomplishing anything else during his term.

Now you need to buy insurance, if you do not, you go to jail.

That's a lie. You get fined.

Republicans have not done anything. On civil issues they are just as bad.

That's wrong. What Obama hasn't undone, they were the ones who "done" it. Nixon started the drug war and Reagan ramped it up. Bush started Gitmo and torture and wiretapping and all the rest. The Republicans want to keep gay marriage illegal or make it illegal again where it is legal. They also want to outlaw abortion. And pornography.

Therefore, in the long run Republicans are expected to do less damage to the country than Democrats.

WTF? Have you the memory of a goldfish? Bush has been out of office only TWO YEARS! In a mere eight years, he failed to stop the economy from going down the shitter, started at least one and possibly two completely unnecessary and counterproductive wars, and was a general embarrassment. The Republicans since then have gotten even more incompetent by embracing the likes of Sarah Palin and Christine O'Donell.

  2. "That's a lie. You get fined.":

And what happens if you do not pay the fine?

Going to jail is not immediate, but it is ultimate. Just because an intermediate step, fines, are introduced does not mean that the failure to buy insurance is imprisonment.

"The Republicans since then have gotten even more incompetent by embracing the likes of Sarah Palin and Christine O'Donell.":

Sarah Palin can shoot moose out of a helicopter. Can you shoot a moose out a helicopter? Do you even know how to shoot like a real American?

If Democrats actually fought for civil issues then I would support them over Republicans. But they do not. That is not their main concern. Their main concerns is something I have no agreement over and further think is headed in the wrong direction. Democrats should concentrate more on civil issues, like they have been avoiding so far. You heard what Barack said about marijuna. They asked him if he would legalize it and he said "no", nothing else, just "no". I see absolutely nothing good in Democrats. This applies to Republicans too. But the only reason why I would pick them is because they seem to be for "smaller" government.

They probably send you a letter. And then maybe garnish your wages. If that doesn't work, probably more letters. Do you honestly think a single person every actually ends up in jail for this? You're just being ridiculous.

I agree with you that Dems aren't primarily fighting for civil issues. But your argument that Republicans are for smaller government seems silly, since mostly they increase spending (now but especially in the future, by increasing deficits) even more than the Republicans do. You're not a big enough sucker to believe them when they say they're going to shrink government even though they can't name a single program they'd actually cut (besides health care, which they couldn't) and never have in real life cut spending. Just look at history, dude. They're full of shit.

What happens if you refuse to give up your wages, or you find schemes to hold it away from them? Or you find ways to cheat and keep the wages to yourself. And you continually refuse to acknowledge any of their letters? What happens?

    "You're just being ridiculous.":

It is ridiculous to put on blinders and say "no violent is being used", it is. Just like taxation. This law is just like taxes. If you do not pay taxes, what happens? The same thing. You get letter and warning and so on. Eventually they break down your door, possibly beat you up, and drag you out of there. The ridiculous part is being blind and refusing to acknowledge the gun in the room. It is contrary to American values to make people buy something against their will.

"I agree with you that Dems aren't primarily fighting for civil issues.":

There are Democrats who do care for civil issues. Just like there are Republicans who do genuinely favor small government. But somehow as a group this never happens. As a whole group Democrats do not do anything to advance civil freedoms and Republicans do not advance fiscal responsibility.

"But your argument that Republicans are for smaller government seems silly, since mostly they increase spending (now but especially in the future, by increasing deficits) even more than the Republicans do.":

That is why I put "smaller" in quotation marks. I do not actually believe that the government will get smaller with the Republicans. I do not think it has ever got smaller for the past 100 of something years. It grew under everyone. If I actually believed Republicans would make it smaller I would be stupid to believe that. As Mitlon Friedman said, "there is nothing so permanent as a temporary government program", and he used to ask for an example of something that actually got cut from the government. Friedman was right in his evaluation. And I do not think the governmnet will get smaller. It will continue to grow. But Republicans make the government grow slower than Democrats do. This is the only reason why I would choose them over Democrats at this point.

  5. The difference is that now we allow corporations to tax us. If Republicans did that, the liberals would go crazy. Since the Democrats did it, it's fine and dandy.

However, on the larger point - are you crazy? Come up with any list of the largest increases in government power, and you'll find a Republican behind 90% of them.

I will give an example to illustrate what I mean. Consider something like healthcare, or cap and trade, or net neutrality.

I am very much against these proposals, in increasing order of severity. I see them as bad ideas that will be counter productive. And I know that you agree with me.

Who is more likely to vote on these bills? Republicans do not stand behind these issues. I do not hear Republicans supporting the healthcare bill. Never heard a Republican behind cap and trade. Not sure about net neutrality but I do not hear them talking about it. But Democrats do support the healthcare bill. They do often support cap and trade. And they do generally stand behind net neutrality. So on these big three issues I would rather have a Republican in power over a Democrat.

  7. Sure you can cherry-pick three issues. How about: endless wars, Patriot Act, Real ID Act, TSA, bailouts, medicare drug coverage, trashing candidates who say anything about the Fed... What makes those 3 issues you cherry-picked so special? Besides, the healthcare bill was already voted on (after being made GOP friendly) and if you take seriously the talk about repeal, you're drinking the kool-aid. The GOP has already solidly caved on cap and trade, and I don't think the GOP opposes net neutrality.

That said, if you have to cherry-pick issues, I think you've cherry-picked the wrong one. I'll cherry-pick war and civil liberties every time.

    Okay, maybe you are right.

(I once learned that a long time ago Republicans used to oppose public education. How many can you find now that oppose public education? They are obviously playing towards the crowd.)
